  •  Working cycle: The Marine diesel engine uses a four-stroke cycle, that is, intake, compression, combustion and exhaust. This cycle is accomplished through continuous       piston motion, allowing the fuel to be efficiently converted into mechanical energy.

 

  • Intake stroke: When the piston goes down, negative pressure is formed in the cylinder and the intake valve is opened. Fresh air enters the cylinder through the intake and air filter, and is fully inflated to prepare for the next step of compression.

 

  • Compression stroke: After the intake valve is closed, the piston goes up and gradually compresses the air entering the cylinder. In this process, the temperature and pressure of the gas rise rapidly, forming high pressure and high temperature compressed air.

 

  • Combustion stroke: When the piston approaches the top dead center, the injection system ejects diesel fuel at high pressure into the preheated compressed air. The fuel evaporates and catches fire rapidly in a high temperature environment, forming a flame and releasing huge energy. This energy pushes the piston down.

 

  • Exhaust stroke: The piston goes up again to discharge the burned exhaust gas from the cylinder. The exhaust valve is opened, and the exhaust gas is discharged through the exhaust channel and enters the exhaust system for treatment and purification. At the same time, the intake valve also begins to open in preparation for the next work cycle.

 

  • Mechanical transmission: The crankshaft converts the reciprocating linear motion of the piston into continuous rotating motion. This rotational motion is propelled by a transmission system that drives the ship's propellers or other power units.
