Due to the lack of energy density of current lithium batteries, pure electric technology is still difficult to be popularized and applied in the field of heavy commercial vehicles. With total 49 tonnes of heavy tractor as an example, according to the actual conditions of use of the current market, such as using electric technology, the vehicle use lithium battery needs to be reached 3000 degrees, even if according to the national planning target, lithium battery total weight reached about 11 tons, costs about $3 million, and the charging time is very long, does not have practical value.

Hydrogen fuel cell technology is considered as a possible development direction in the field of heavy-duty commercial vehicle power, but the preparation, transportation, storage, filling and other links of hydrogen are difficult to support the extensive application of hydrogen fuel cell. Fuel cells will account for no more than 20% of heavy-duty commercial vehicles by 2050, according to the International Hydrogen Energy Organization.

The rapid development of new energy technology objectively forces the diesel engine industry to speed up the technological upgrading and product replacement. New energy and diesel engine will be complementary to each other for a long time. It is not a simple zero-sum game between them.
